30 Miles In 30 Days

Can you believe tomorrow is the last day of May? This month just flew by, and I have nothing to show for it.

May's challenge was much more difficult for me than April's. I'm not sure why. I didn't go to yoga nearly as much, and I struggled to get my miles. I just wasn't into it, for some reason or another.

Here's a little recap of my month.

Post 1: 3 Miles

Post 2: 9.5 Miles

Post 3: 11.5 Miles

This Week: 13.5

Total for May: 37.5

I'll definitely be doing this challenge again in June. Thanks to Nikki for hosting!

I'm Not Done With It

Men are so funny. Here's little sneak peek into my how funny mine is...

Kris: "Oh man, we don't have anything to drink."

Jessica: "I think your Dr. Pepper is in the fridge."

Kris: "It's empty."

Jessica: "Then why is it in the fridge?"

Kris: "I'm not done with it yet."

You're not done with an empty Dr. Pepper bottle? My bad.

My interpretation? He drank almost all of it and left a drop or 2 in the bottle. Instead of walking to the recycle bin, he put it back in the refrigerator. I guess it was too much to walk 10 steps. Or maybe he really is saving those 2 drops of Dr. Pepper for when he really needs them. The mystery continues...

Gotta love him, though!

Style Statement Tuesday

Welcome to Style Statement Tuesday!

If you're new here, Style Statement Tuesday is way for me to chronicle my outfits and discuss how/if they fit my style statement, which I've defined as 'Classic Pretty.' It's also a place for you to link-up  your outfit posts and inspirations. To read more about Style Statement Tuesday, click here.

This week, I'm showing  you an outfit I wore while piddling around town with my husband. (Southern Side Note: Piddling means doing nothing of importance.) It's super casual and perfect for summer.

Dress & Belt: Old Navy; Cardigan: J.Crew Factory; Shoes: TOMS
There is not really a lot to say about this look. It's a classic t-shirt dress, cinched with a belt, topped with a jersey cardigan. I could've added accessories, but I just didn't feel they were necessary for what I was doing. PS- Ignore my blindingly white legs. They haven't seen much of the sun.

Have you noticed that my outfits are always very casual. I promise I do dress nicely. Maybe it's the summer or maybe I should change my style statement from 'Classic Pretty' to 'Pretty Casual'?

How cute is Bourke looking at my shoes? So, tell me. What are you wearing this summer?

Before Someone Gets Hurt

I've gotten quite a few new readers as of late, and before we commit to a long-term relationship, there are a few things you should know about me.

I do not have the kind of skin or hair that looks Victoria's Secret model fab when I roll out of bed. If you want to do something with me or hang out, you're going to have to give me a heads up. Girlfriend needs some time.

I watch a lot of TV. If you hear me say, "I can't. I have plans," there is a good chance those "plans" are to sit on my couch and watch TV. For that, I will never apologize.

I'm a wine snob. I believe boxes should be filled with gifts, not wine.

I'm not too good for Target.

I am not a foodie. As much as I love wine, I don't eat fancy, elaborate meals on the reg. I'm more of a cereal and sandwich kind of girl.

I'm very excitable. My husband calls it dramatic; I call it full of life. Most of my sentences begin with "Oh my god, guess what?!"

I might die of diet coke poisoning one day. Be sure to tell the medical examiner to check for that.

I treat my dogs like humans. To be honest, they're cooler than most people I know. Including me.

So, there you have it. I just thought I should be upfront about who I am. If you can't handle it; it's best we end things now before someone gets hurt.

High Five For Friday!

Friday always reminds me God loves me. Don't get me wrong, other things remind me, too, but Friday is a little end-of-the-week gift from the heavens.

I had tons of pictures to show you this week, but they are all on my phone. And I left my phone in my car this morning. And the thought of walking all the way outside to get it is more than I handle. So we'll just have to make do today.

1. I got a new haircut last week. It wasn't much of a change, but I was kind of freaked out about it. I've gotten use to it now, and actually really like it.

2. J.Crew Factory is having a 50% sale this weekend (in stores only). I plan on partaking, you should, too.

3. It's supposed to be sunny this weekend. I'll be by the pool on Sunday. In case you're looking, you know where to find me.

4. My team won first place in trivia last night. We're now in first place in our league. I know it's nerdy, but I love that dang team!

5. Saw my husband last night for the first time since Monday . He's been working late, and I've been asleep when he has gotten home every night. I missed him!

As always, I'm linking up with Lauren. What are you doing this weekend? Be sure to have some fun & some champagne!

30 Miles In 30 Days

This week was a little bit of a challenge for me. Not really miles wise, but food wise.

We visited our families this weekend, which of course, included eating. Duh, we're southern. I had a work lunch on Monday, and Kris had a work dinner on Monday. It was tough to always make healthy choices. The eternal dilemma is wanting to eat the bad, but knowing I should eat the good. I'm hoping to be in a place where I no longer want to eat the bad. We'll see how that goes! I do feel, however, I'm back on track. Fingers crossed to staying that way.

Another thing I slacked on was yoga. Last night was my first class in over a week. :(

Here's how I've done since my last update...

Thursday: 3 miles

Friday: 2 miles

Monday: 2 miles

Tuesday: 2 miles

Wednesday: 2.5 miles + 60 minutes of yoga

Miles this week: 11.5 miles, all walking

Miles to go: 6 miles

Days to go: 8 days

How did you do? What struggles have you run across this week in your quest for health and well-being? Check out Nikki's blog to learn more about the 30 Miles in 30 Days challenge and consider linking up for June!

Today's look is an attempt at the orange + pink trend.

Top: Banana Republic Factory; Jeans: Old Navy; Clutch: Gap; Shoes: Sam Edelman; Bangle: J.Crew
This top is a classic silhouette and has pretty details like the ties. The clutch has such a vibrant color that I would wear it with everything if I could!

After looking at these pictures, I don't really love this outfit, although I felt good in it. I think the bright orange top just really isn't my style and is better left for football games. Go Vols!

Weekend Recap

It's time for a weekend recap!

This weekend was a whirlwind for me. We did a quick trip to visit family on Saturday and didn't get back until 2am. Needless to say, we slept until 11am yesterday. I think I'm still recovering. Correction, I know I'm still recovering.

Saturday, I got to spend some time with my 2 youngest nephews. They were dolls, as always. I was a bad blogger, but a good aunt. I chose to be in the moment rather than snap pictures and make them pose.

Yesterday, we did a little shopping, but mostly we just laid around. Don't you just love lazy days? They're becoming very popular in the Garner house.

Well, I could win the award for the lamest post ever for this one, but hey, such is life. I'll be more entertaining tomorrow. I promise. But, you should you know my promises mean about as much as a bad ex-boyfriend's promises. Just kidding.

On Marriage

Marriage is hard. Like hard hard. The kind of hard that no one tells you about when you're about to walk down the aisle. The kind of hard other married people rarely talk about. The kind of hard that makes you wonder if other couples are experiencing the same thing or if your marriage is the unusual one. That kind of hard that makes you wonder if you're going to be able to deal with the hard work that must surely follow.

Every marriage (hopefully) starts out with a love story. A tale of smiles and laughs and constant affections, etc. All you can think about is how perfect your significant other is and how much joy he or she brings into your life. But as time goes by and life sets in, it becomes harder to live in the love story, even though the love is still very much present.

It becomes easier to see the imperfection. It becomes easy to play the blame game. He didn't do this and she should've done that becomes far too difficult to overlook. That's when the hard work must come. But, no one gives you a how-to when you apply for your marriage license. Marriage doesn't come with a roadmap, unfortunately. All too often, you learn what not to do by experience. To use Jenni's words,
They never really get into the real stuff about cohabitating with someone, about traveling through life with them and taking the hard punches together...changing together as humans often do, and continuing to love despite that change...But the truth is, that the hard work will look different for everyone. Maybe it will be harder hard work for some than for others, depending on circumstances. But as long a you have real love for each other and are willing to accept a person as they are, you have what you need. The work part comes in changing yourself, almost 100% of the time.
I love that last sentence. Do I always follow it? No, absolutely not. But, I try. I love my husband, and I never give up. I'm not claiming to be a marriage expert, and I'm not claiming to be in perfect marriage. Lord knows I'm not on either counts, but my heart is in the right place. I know if I want a successful marriage it will take hard work, the kind of hard work that doesn't come with a roadmap.

30 Miles In 30 Days

Last week was not so good to me. I vowed I would do better and I did. I tripled my miles from last week!

One of the biggest motivators for me was how awesome I knew I'd feel if I was more active this week. I took the dogs for walk after work, and I loved it as much as they did! Another huge factor in my success this week  was one of my amazing coworkers. We have been taking mid-day breaks and walking a mile or so outside. It make a huge difference in my afternoon productivity and energy level.

Here's how I did this week...

Saturday: 1 mile + 75 minutes yoga
Sunday: 1.5 miles
Monday: 2.5 miles
Tuesday: 3.5 miles
Wednesday: 1 mile
Miles this week: 9.5 miles
Miles to go: 17.5 miles
Days to go: 15 days

Also, I'm sponsoring a giveaway on Glossy Blonde; you should stop by and enter for a chance to win a $20 Target gift card!

Napa Recap

Now that I've been back for 2 weeks, you're finally getting a recap of our trip to Napa/Sonoma.

Northern California, especially Napa and Sonoma, is where my soul feels most at home. The first time I visited, within 10 minutes of my arrival, something in me came alive. It was unlike anything I've ever experienced. I felt more connected with God, the earth, and myself than I have ever before.

I just love the laid back lifestyle. It's almost like God smiles just a little bit more at Northern CA than he does anywhere else. I can't get enough of the fresh food and the farmland. "Don't you live in Tennessee, the land of rolling hills?" you might ask. California is different. It just is. I grew up in rural southern middle Tennessee. I could not wait to get out of that hell hole. I swear it sucks the life right out of people. Even though there are tons of "farmers" and farmland where I grew up, the farmer lifestyle in California is very different from what I am accustomed. It's more educated farmer than redneck farmer, and I can totally be down with that.

On our recent trip, we had an amazing time. It was extremely difficult to come back. I'm convinced that one of these days we'll just stay. Here are a few snapshots of our amazing visit. We're already making plans to go back next May. What can I say? We're hooked.

Style Statement Tuesday

Welcome to Style Statement Tuesday!

Today, I'm showing you one of my favorite summer dresses (that may be slightly age inappropriate)while taking Marion Berry Style's trend of the month challenge and using yellow. Forgive the photos, my photographer wasn't available and I had to use the timer on my iPad!

Jacket & Shoes: Old Navy; Dress: Forever 21; Belt: J.Crew Factory; Bag: Nine West

I would wear this shopping or day drinking with my girlfriends. I tend to be cold everywhere I go; a jacket is a must for me. Plus, I'm a tiny bit self-conscious about my arms, so having something to cover them makes me more comfortable.

This dress is super cute and feminine. Adding the purple belt and pops of yellow really make it fun. Is it 'Classic Pretty'? Probably not, but I like it anyway. And let's be honest, I've got about a year and half left before this dress becomes completely unacceptable for my age group. I'm going to wear it while I can!

Weekend Recap

This weekend was one of those weekends where you don't do much, but you do just enough to where you're not bored out of your ever loving mind.

On Saturday, Kris and I took Five to the pet fair at our veterinarian's office. It's important for her to work on her social skills because she's "a party in a puppy suit." She did such a great job! It wore her out, so she was extremely well-behaved for the rest of the day.

I also saw one of my BFFs on Saturday. We enjoyed a grueling hot yoga class and a nice lunch afterwards. You know you have a true friend when she agrees to attend hot yoga with you. That night, I popped open some champs and watched Golden Girls for a little guilty pleasure time.

On Sunday, Kris worked half the day, so I just hung out with the dogs. We went for a little walk and enjoyed the sunshine, but mostly we lounged. When Kris got home, he and I did the margarita and patio thing. We also ate pizza. Shh, don't tell.

All in all, it was the kind of perfect that just doesn't happen all that often.

Join me in giving an 80s style shout out to the woman who let her stomach be cut wide open for the second time, virtually ensuring she would never be in a bikini again, just so I could be born.

What did you do? Linking up for Weekend Shenanigans.
